Each and every day, I am amazed at how many professionals take on new challenges, work hard to overcome obstacles and volunteer to take on new tasks or responsibilities. It is rewarding to see these professionals grow and learn from mistakes, failures and successes.
Most of the time, however, many more professionals do not take on new challenges or responsibilities. Some say it is because they are too busy. Others say they don’t feel they have enough skills or experience. Whatever the reason, or excuse, I want to encourage you all to do more. If you are happy with your current job duties, compensation and responsibilities, then great! If you want to earn more or be more, you have to do more!
Don’t allow yourself to make excuses. One fact that maybe you are unaware of is that every person in the world has some self-doubt, frustration or fear of doing something new. This is what is called “normal!” It is natural to have these concerns and feelings, but do not let them rule your life. Have the professional mindset of “If you are not failing, you are not pushing yourself!” If you struggle or fail, that is okay. It is called learning and the more you try, the easier it gets. Have the courage to allow yourself to either fail or succeed. It is all learning and will not only make you a stronger, more prepared professional, but will also expose you to more opportunities.
